Glencoe
Historic Glencoe was built in 1841 by George Thomas Wallace, along the Dismal Swamp Canal in close proximity to the Northwest Canal Locks. Wallace’s property was located near the North Carolina border in the area generally known as Wallacetown. Tragically, Glencoe was consumed by fire in 1979 on Thanksgiving Day. Although it was rebuilt, it was never restored to it’s original grandeur. The house stood until only a few years ago.
